tom compton Posted 4 February , 2009 Author Share Posted 4 February , 2009 Hello andy. I was put onto a site by forum member christina Harkness who is a 10th hussar fan and it listed all medals for the 10th hussars in the boer war corporal George Tristram Q.S.A. 7 .Have i got it wrong is the 7, 7 clasps ? .Tom
Michael Johnson Posted 4 February , 2009 Share Posted 4 February , 2009 Seven is possible, I think even without the two South Africa clasps. Belfast, Wittebergen, Diamond Hill, Johannesburg, Driefontein, Paardeburg, Relief of Kimberley were all awarded to the 10th Hussars.

If you give me his name I'll look him up for you. 7 clasps is possible 'even' for a bandsman. Clasp entitlement was based on being with the prescribed geographical area. If, as seems likely, he was a stretcher bearer he would most likely have been well within such areas. David

bluesky Posted 4 February , 2009 Share Posted 4 February , 2009 Thanks David. His name is corporal George Thomas Tristram,Bandsman 10th hussars. Later royal marines artillery band portsmouth. Born kildare . Tom Tom - yes he checks out for a 7 clasp QSA on the roll. 2699 Cpl. G. Tristram 10th Hussars QSA with clasps Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen and South Africa 1901. The 1901 clasp indicates he wasn't enttiled to a King's South Africa Medal. He was presumably repatriated for whatever reason (e.g. time expired, transferred or invalided) some time in 1901. tom compton Posted 4 February , 2009 Author Share Posted 4 February , 2009 Thanks David .Thats cleared that up and he did transfer to the royal marines artillery band portsmouth so it may have been about that time in 1901. and thanks to all the other forum pals who posted Tom
