Not sure what section this should be in....found in Bertincourt cemetery....monument to a fallen German airman, the monument has an aeroplane on the other side, unfortunately the name is missing.

Just a guess, Bertincourt was used in August/September 1916 by Jasta 1 and 2, two casualties pop up in September on the 22nd, Unteroff. Karl Köhn and Flieger Albert Reichel WIA and died next day at Cambrai. Unit unknown...

I'll see if I can find any other names...

Looked a bit further in my databases, Gefreiter Hermann Keller died 23 June 1916 at Bertincourt and Oblt. Josef Mühlfeldt on the 12th August 1918 also at Bertincourt. Keller served with FA32, Mühlfeldt with Jasta 23b, and was wounded the day before in the Verdun area. Died of his wounds.

Johan, many thanks for that information. I don't suppose we will ever know if it is Keller or Muhlfeldt....his comrades certainly gave him a good memorial.

Regards, Peter

PS I don't know much about the air service.....what does FA stand for?
