MrG Posted 29 January , 2009 Share Posted 29 January , 2009 Have tracked down a relative as a "KB Winch DF" - I assume this is a winch operator - for 7 Balloon Company and later 9 Balloon company from 1916-1919. I know 9 Balloon Coy was in Italy somewhere and I think 7 Balloon Coy was attached to the British 2nd Army in France. Could anyone confirm and/or add any detail to this? For instance where they were posted? Thanks Merve
Starlight Posted 29 January , 2009 Share Posted 29 January , 2009 Hi Merve, I can confirm that for the Third Battle of Ypres at least (31/07/17) 7 Balloon Company was part of 2 Kite Balloon Wing which in turn was part of II Brigade RFC and supporting the 2nd Army. The HQ of 2 Kite Balloon Wing was at Mont Rouge buut I don't know where 7 Balloon Company was operating. It's a start at any rate. Starlight Posted 29 January , 2009 Share Posted 29 January , 2009 Just had a look in Chris Hobsen's "Airmen Died . . . " and there were two men from 7 Balloon Company who died, both in 1918. One was buried at Dadizeele and the other at Poperinghe (close to Ypres). Steve
