John_Hartley Posted 28 January , 2009 Share Posted 28 January , 2009 Mrs H took me away last weekend. On the way back, we stopped for lunch at Kirkby Lonsdale (on the Cumbria/Lancashire border). Spotted the local war memorial in the churchyard, so went to have a look. Like you do. It's been renovated in the not too distant past as all the names appear newly engraved (on what I think was slate). And then I spotted a fair uncommon name that seemed familiar, so I made a mental note. Back home, I quickly realised that I'd come across this guy on a couple of occasions during research and never knew that he'd come from there. Oh, and the funny thing? That was Mrs H taking me away. ian turner Posted 28 January , 2009 Share Posted 28 January , 2009 The idea behind the away-weekend was that Mrs H wanted to get you away from war memorial research, no doubt.....
Stephen Nulty Posted 28 January , 2009 Share Posted 28 January , 2009 Leonard Bocking?
John_Hartley Posted 28 January , 2009 Author Share Posted 28 January , 2009 Not Bocking. Nor, in similar but more local vein, T A (probably, but not necessarily, Thomas Albert) Ladley who continues to defeat me (and who I also can't ID on the 1911 Census).
