Peter Bennett Posted 27 January , 2009 Share Posted 27 January , 2009 This VAD Nurse's medal and other possessions are for sale on e-bay. She allegedly died of sickness but seller cannot trace her on CWGC or otherwise. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Superb-Group-of-Item...A1%7C240%3A1318
laughton Posted 29 January , 2009 Share Posted 29 January , 2009 This might be her husband, as her name came up when I searched CWGC for Dorothy Godden: Husband of a Nurse? Nice pictures!
alf mcm Posted 29 January , 2009 Share Posted 29 January , 2009 Peter, She may be Nurse Dorothy Goddard, VAD. Her medal index card is online at National Archives. She does not, however, appear on CWGC. Regards, Alf McM
Terry Denham Posted 29 January , 2009 Share Posted 29 January , 2009 Not all VADs qualify for CWGC commemoration. Death had to occur overseas whilst attached to a Commonwealth military force 04.08.14 to 11.11.18. Death in the UK or between 12.11.18 and 31.08.21 would count also if the cause of death was due to or exacebated by overseas service between the first set of dates. welshdoc Posted 29 January , 2009 Share Posted 29 January , 2009 The vendor claimed she died at home of a virus picked up whilst serving overseas.
laughton Posted 29 January , 2009 Share Posted 29 January , 2009 Spanish Flu I presume? Killed more people worldwide than the war itself.
