hi all. ive come across 2 casualties of 1/10th london regiment with the same surname. not uncommon. however this is a fairly uncommon surname. the name is branchflower. the two men in question are

Branchflower, Charles E, private 1955. kia 16/8/1915, commerated helles memorial, age 24

Branchflower, G, Private 421610, kia 19/4/1917, buried Gaza cemetery.

is there anychance someone could check for service records, or 1885 census? There might not be no connection but would be interesting to see.

James,

You'll need to be checking the 1901 census, William was born in 1891 (ish)

the FMP 1901 census site is faffing about at the moment so I can have a look

Can't find a William Branchflower 1955 but can find a Charles E Branchflower of the London Regiment, born in Hackney in 1894, he has a brother George born in 1897 in Hackney. They do have an older brother William born in 1891 but he does not appear as a casualty on CWGC

All that means is that the medals were returned for adjustment because they were incorrectly inscribed.

thanks again mel. to me it looks like the 2 men i have are these 2 men here. 1/10th londons was the hackney rifles. both men joined up to their local regiment and the story went from there. do you agree with me?
