While I would strongly debate the tactical/strategic genius of Yamamoto we will just have to leave it for another forum. In any case thank you for clueing me in on "Tosh". Now back on topic.

If you read my reply I was not disputing his military genius but the idea that a generals embodiement of the spirit of the nation was the issue. Hence my on topic comparison with Kitchener (probably not a military genius) who did embody the mood of much of the country. His death made not one wit of difference to the war
