rosandken Posted 23 January , 2009 Share Posted 23 January , 2009 I have inherited my late Grandfather's three WWI medals. One, we have discovered is the MM. None of the family even knew he had received it. I have done some research and it is mentioned in the London Gazette dated 6 August 1918. Mr grandather's name was Pte. George Pottinger. Army No. 26938. He was in 1 Field Ambulance RAMC. I am keen to know when, and why, he was awarded the MM. I assume I shall have to visit Kew and search through the War Diaries but I just wondered if anyone else might know anything or be able to help. Many thanks. unitedsound Posted 23 January , 2009 Share Posted 23 January , 2009 When I read your interesting post, I wanted to know more about the Military Medal. This link provides criteria and general information from Lord Kitchener. http://www.theaerodrome.com/medals/gbritain/mm.php Hope to hear the outcome of your mission
tjec Posted 23 January , 2009 Share Posted 23 January , 2009 Hi, Not sure how the RAMC entered information into their WD's, but my Great Uncle was awarded the MM when with the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards and the WD entry was 17 April 1 DSO, 2 MC's, 3 DCM's and 16 MM's were awarded to the Battalion. Good luck, Norman
