KOYLI 4 Posted 22 January , 2009 Share Posted 22 January , 2009 Hi I wonder if anyone would be able to give me any information on Harold Haigh, who was a private in the Seaforth Highlanders? Harold was from Leeds I believe and was engaged to my Grandma. He enlisted in the Seaforth Highlanders ('E' company 2nd or 3rd Btn I think). His number was 5/11543. At some point during the war he was killed. I found a couple of letters from him in my Grandma's things and was interested in what had happened to him. PPCLI Posted 22 January , 2009 Share Posted 22 January , 2009 His service number's prefix should be an 'S' rather than a '5', which has been mis-transcribed on the NA's online MIC search facility. 'S' denotes Service and was used for 1914-1918 enlistment into Highland regiments. His number suggests an enlistment date of either very late 1915 or, more likely, the early months of 1916. His date of death indicates that he was a casualty during the First Battle of the Scarpe (9-14th Apr 1917), the first phase of the Arras Offensive.
