Remembered Today:

SWB card

Does anyone know what the "2a" and the "W" stand for on this card at the top right. I though W might be Class W Reserve but a man discharged as no longer fit for military service would not be a candidate for the Class W Reserve )if I have read the criteria correctly).

Cheers.

Andy.

Andy

not sure of the 'W' but Army Order 291 Silver War Badge : October 1918 has para 2a and reads as follows:

2. Under the amended conditions the badge will, subject in every case to the approval of the Army Council, be issued to the individuals specified below, who served with the Colours for at least seven days subsequent to the 4th August, 1914:

(a) Disabled men who have served during the present war outside the British Islands, or have served in the field in any previous war.

W = Wounds, I can't remember off the top of my head what the 2a reference is but I'll check tonight if nobody else answers in the meantime.

Steve

edit: I see Jon's answered the 2a bit now.....

That's enlightened me to the 'W' Steve,

Glad to assist, the other 'usual' entry is S for Sickness.
