per ardua per mare per terram Posted 22 January , 2009 Share Posted 22 January , 2009 Their war diary is in WO 95/2510 11 Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. I haven't found it online. Where they were fighting on the First Day of the Battle of the Somme should be recorded in their regimental history.
DavoT Posted 24 January , 2009 Share Posted 24 January , 2009 From British Battalions on the Somme: 11th (Service) Battalion (Donegal and Fermanagh), 109th Brigade, 36th (Ulster) Division. Moved forward from Thiepval Wood in support of attack (1/7) sustaining high casualties from Machine gun fire upon leaving wood and during attempt to cross no man's land. Withdrew during the night. Hope this helps. Cheers, David
