I'm surprised no one has answered you. Maybe you'll get a better responce in the Western Front sub forum simply asking "where was hill 147 on 04/06/16?"

Now I know that it is over a year since your post but I only came across the forum yesterday:(

Lieutenant Francis Clive Batty-Smith was my great uncle, and my father is custodian of the family archives. We have a huge wooden box with the archives in and some of them are records for Clive as he was known in the family. We were well aware of his mode of death - essentially friendly fire!, and have a copy of the Chapman book.

I am sure that there is a document written by my grandfather Harold (Major, Royal Scots, M.C.) , Clive's brother, detailing what actually happened and where. If you are still interested I'll see what I can dig out and let you know.

Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

Was Lt S H Batty-Smith, LNLR, a PoW at Friedberg, another of your relatives (as mentioned in "The Escaping club")?
