o j kirby Posted 15 January , 2009 Share Posted 15 January , 2009 Hello, My wife had a relation who served as a Police Guard for the Danish Royal Household. Family history has it that he was present at a royal visit from the last Tsar of Russia either before or during WW1. Information is a bit sketchy, but is anyone has any knowledge on this, I would be grateful to know. Many thanks Owain.
LarsA Posted 15 January , 2009 Share Posted 15 January , 2009 I know of a visit by the tsar in Denmark in 1901, if that could be a possible occasion. No immediate hits for later visits, though his mother was from Denmark so at least up to WWI visits might have been made. Probably not during the war though. /Lars
MartH Posted 15 January , 2009 Share Posted 15 January , 2009 Hi The Tsar regularly travelled on his yacht in the Baltic and to the UK. In 1914 I think the Tsar visited the UK for the Cows Yachting Competition and maybe the reopening of the Kiel Canal, which was the last gathering of the European crowned heads before August, I can't find any on-line references. I recall seeing a TV documentary with footage of all of this, including stopping off in Denmark.
