"In From the Cold Project" - article in "Stand To"

Pals

The current edition of the Western Front Association's magazine "Stand To" carries a major article about the work of the Project.

Regular readers of the GWF will know that we have been working for over 12 months cross-checking the GRO list of overseas deaths (and SDGW/ODGW) against the CWGC database looking for men who have slipped through the net for commemoration or who have possible significant errors in the commemoration (mainly surname or date of death discrepancies).

The Project's original members were all drawn from amongst the GWF pals but, more recently, new volunteers have come forward from the War Graves Photographic Project and we now have nearly 30 people helping out.

As well as the Stand To article, the Photo Project newsletter also carries information about our work. With both of these articles inviting folk to join us, I expect to be inundated. So, if you'd like to beat the rush to volunteer, just drop me an email or PM.

You'll need reasonably good eyesight (some of the GRO pages are poor quality) and will be aware that this will be an often boring clerical task. It is , however, the only way to ensure these men get their rightful commemoration. In return, I promise you a fantastic buzz, each and every time CWGC/MoD agrees to commemorate one of "your " men.
