cdr Posted 14 January , 2009 Share Posted 14 January , 2009 part of the belgian army received Turkish mausers. Does anyone have any idea where these came from (Gallipoli ?) and how they ended up in the Belgian Army Carl
TonyE Posted 14 January , 2009 Share Posted 14 January , 2009 What is your source for this and does it state how many were acquired? Both Belgium and Turkey used Mausers chambered for the 7.65 x 54mm round so it would be a logical place to send any captured weapons. However, if it was only a small number there may be another source, but I will not muddy the waters until I have some idea of the numbers. cdr Posted 14 January , 2009 Author Share Posted 14 January , 2009 It comes from a bilingual (French , Flemish) manual for NCO's printed in Rouen probably in 1917. They are no numbers given

TonyE Posted 14 January , 2009 Share Posted 14 January , 2009 Thanks Ritchie. My copy of Ball's Mausers is the 1996 edition and that has no mention of the Turkish captures being supplied by Britain to Belgium, although as I said in the previous post, it makes obvious sense. I will have to see if I can find any record of this at the NA, as I am particularly interested in the supply of foreign rifles by the British to the allies.
