8th North Staffords Nine Wood

Original post was to locate Nine Wood position, this found below, war diary only gives scant info can anyone else give any info on what they were engaged in, researching a local chap T Shone who died KIA 1/2/1918

War Diary for the 8th Battalion shows that the unit had just returned to the front line trenches on the evening of the 31st January 1918, relieving the 10th Royal Warwickshire Regiment, on the 1st February it states, Battalion relieved by the 9th Welsh Regt and proceeded to intermediate line, HQ Ridge Trench,

Yes that is it: Bois des Neuf on the modern map. During the months leading up to the Battle of Cambrai, the German army had it fitted out and prepared as a training facility.

Jack, thanks for reply, from looking at maps of the area it appears the 8th Batt was positioned some distance from Nine wood, would the war diary relate to the general area of nine wood when recording it ??
