Hello

During the free access to ancestry, I managed to find 2 sets of attestation papers

for my GGFather Hugh Kane. The first on 09/09/1914 in Lochgelly as 33247 R.A.M.C

then discharged as unlikely to become efficient due to injury to back on 08/10/1914.

I will point out that the info on the marriage is incorrect on these doc's in respect of wife's

maiden name being written down as Gordon when it is in fact Gorman and daughter is

down as Kate instead of Catherine otherwise same date same church same priest same

witnesses who were his youngest brother and sister Edward and Katie (Catherine).

And then on 04/11/1914 he rejoins in Cowdenbeath as 16325 R.Ir Fus and then it says

28/11/1914 deserted? Marriage and children’s details all correct

but the link to these records gives incorrect age for Hugh the actual record shows correct age

I only found it because i was looking at all H Kane’s (as it was free).

There is an M.I.C for 16325 Hugh Kane (no battalion no) would that mean that he did serve with the

R.Ir.Fus despite the deserted? on the record, and if that is the case it raises anther question

as the M.I.C is for Gallipoli but he is not entitled to the 14/15 star as did not enter theatre during

Qualifying period i.e. after 31st Dec 15, the R.Ir.Fus were no longer in Gallipoli?

I have only mentioned the R.A.M.C details for the medical discharge as that to me indicates he did not

desert to avoid fighting but the exact opposite as although I have no evidence I think he may have been

going to 4th battn and he knew/found out they would be staying in Ireland and he wanted to fight Germans,

not police the Irish Catholics.

Anyway apologies for long post leading to a couple of small questions,

Can you maybe dessert as record say’s deserted?

Is there anywhere I could find details of where/what Hugh was up to between

28/11/14 and Sept 1916 when I believe Hugh was sent to 1/4th West Riding

as one of many replacements after the 3/9/16
