HERITAGE PLUS Posted 8 January , 2009 Share Posted 8 January , 2009 The Polegate Inn, Polegate, Sussex was frequented by ANZAC soldiers while convalescing at a nearby hospital. After the war the Inn was renamed 'The Dinkum' as the ANZACs had deemed it to be 'fair dinkum'. Can anyone identify for me what hospital they may have been patients of, please? Sue Light Posted 9 January , 2009 Share Posted 9 January , 2009 Polegate is just a hop and a skip from Eastbourne on the bus (or other transport), and I think it likely that they were on a day out from either one of the many hospitals there, or more likely perhaps from Summerdown Convalescent Camp on the downs above the town.
