alf mcm Posted 2 January , 2009 Share Posted 2 January , 2009 I was wondering if anyone had ever served in the Army, Navy and one of the Air Forces {R.F.C., R.N.A.S. & R.A.F.} during the Great War? Even better, has anyone served in the Army, Navy and more than 1 of the Air Forces? Regards, Alf McM
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 12 January , 2009 Share Posted 12 January , 2009 There were serveral who did this, especially from the RNVR. A swathe started as Kitchener's volunteers (army), were transferred to the RNVR (technically the Navy), some might then transfer to the RFC or RNAS and end up in the RAF on 1st April 1918. alf mcm Posted 12 January , 2009 Author Share Posted 12 January , 2009 Thanks for your reply, Does anyone know if the Kitchener's volunteers were given the choice of serving in the RNVR, or was the decision made for them? Regards, Alf McM
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 14 January , 2009 Share Posted 14 January , 2009 I think this has come up somewhere in the ships & navy's forum. I suspect it was the usual way of getting volunteers: "we'll have you, you and you!"

per ardua per mare per terram Posted 21 January , 2009 Share Posted 21 January , 2009 The WWI armed forces were not touchy, feely, concensus organisations! People went where they were sent.
