stuart.dann@tiscali.co.uk Posted 1 January , 2009 Share Posted 1 January , 2009 I have recently aquired my Great Grandfather's WW1 two service medals and am curious to find out as much further information as I can about his WW1 service before visiting the battlefields later this year. Can anyone please tell me what the prefix 'M2' is on his regimental number? I have some very limited information about him in that according to my father William was at Ypres and Passchendale and survived the Great War. And as per his MIC he was also awarded the Silver War Badge. Any help would be appreciated
jay dubaya Posted 1 January , 2009 Share Posted 1 January , 2009 Welcome to the forum Stuart, M2 would indicate Mechanical Transport. If you have a copy of his MIC the medal references will lead you to the medal rolls which may give you his unit details (sadly these rolls can only be viewed in person at the NA). Once you know which unit to track the war diaris can then be searched, Jon
