genius1s Posted 1 January , 2009 Share Posted 1 January , 2009 Happy New Year Year! Can anyone help me identify the uniform of my maternal grandfather in WW1? He was born in 1897 and survived the war Thanks in anticipation. Doc1.doc
4thGordons Posted 1 January , 2009 Share Posted 1 January , 2009 And the same to you! I am not certain on the regiment/corps and will leave that to the badge experts, but he is probably a driver (horses) as he has spurs on, his puttees are wound top-down, he is carrying a riding crop and wearing riding breeches rather than trousers. Can you make out his shoulder titles on the original? They look like they might be legible. Chris
Tom A McCluskey Posted 1 January , 2009 Share Posted 1 January , 2009 Hi, The cap badge looks like a 15th Hussars one. Aye Tom McC
Filbert70 Posted 1 January , 2009 Share Posted 1 January , 2009 Hello certainly looks like 15th Hussars to me. Post your Grandfathers name and I'm sure more information will follow. Regards Ian
genius1s Posted 1 January , 2009 Author Share Posted 1 January , 2009 Many thanks to those who have replied - so far. My grandfather was William Henry Wilson, born in Derbyshire, but probably living in N.Yorks at the outbreak of war. he married in 1919, in Scarborough (not in uniform in photos). I can't find any mention of him anywhere in any of the National Archives records online. best wishes Anne
