Extract from 2nd Bedfordshire War diary Jan 1st 1916.

The Battalion played the 17th Kings Liverpool Regiment at football, and lost 2.0. In the last minute of the game 2nd Lt Grover met with unfortunate accident, breaking his leg in 2 places.

(' unfortunate accident'!! I think that was what one might call a 'lucky break' !! ) Have done a quick check on cwwc and seems he may have survived the war.... would be interesting to find out.

Richard.

Richard

If you really want to check this out there are seven Officer files for GROVER at the National Archives in the WO339 series. Three of them are Captains. The other four are rankless in the index, but may produce the one you might need ! They have initials H (2),M and W.

Happy New Year !
