vickers Posted 12 March , 2004 Share Posted 12 March , 2004 My father was Private Leonard Arthur Page .He was in the M.G.C.As I was only young when he died I do not know when he joined up,where he did his training or where he was in any conflict. On his medals it says PTE L.A.PAGE 87492, 8TH BATTALION.NO.5.COY. I also have a post card with this information on it from Merseburg ,Germany. Also on another medal is the number 7810062 with a clip that reads WAZIRISTAN 1919-21. I would be very grateful if anyone could help with any info that would help me. Thanks CHRIS
hmsk212 Posted 12 March , 2004 Share Posted 12 March , 2004 Hi Chris Welcome to the forum The Medal with the Waziristan 1919 - 1921 clasp is the India General Service Medal 1908 -35 and his no 781oo62 shows that he served after about 1920. This medal is quite rare to the Machine Gun Corps, I believe that only just over 400 were issued to the MGC with this clasp. Steve

Staffsyeoman Posted 14 March , 2004 Share Posted 14 March , 2004 Chris; Pictures of the MGC in that theatre are even rarer - thanks for sharing it. 8th Bn served in Russia in 1919, returned to the UK and then to India and finally Iraq in 1920. No specific records of it serving in the Army of Occupation - may only have been transiting. His personal numbers reflect his original MGC number and the renumbering undertaken in 1920 (which effectively brought in the block system of 'Army numbers').
