1st AIF Posted 18 January , 2009 Share Posted 18 January , 2009 This is one of mine. It was taken in front of Vaire Wood looking towards Hamel. The Aussies (and yanks) had successfully attacked from the left of the photo on 4th July 1918. Pear Trench is off to the left several hundred metres. Desmond7 Posted 24 January , 2009 Share Posted 24 January , 2009 The back of this old pilgrimage picture says .. Mrs. Montgomery at 'Ulster' cemetery, Thiepval. Having looked at this first time around, I thought it might be Milld Road .. but consulation with others strongly suggests Connaught .. Anyway, if anyone with magic out there cares to do a blend .. feel free. I include a June 2006 pic I took of Conn Cemetery.

Desmond7 Posted 24 January , 2009 Share Posted 24 January , 2009 Cropped and tilted a couple of degrees .. pilgrimage pic is very small - half postcard size. Here's a few more 'thens' if people can match up 'nows' - have fun photoshop wizards!! Thread continues to produce great old images.

Desmond7 Posted 24 January , 2009 Share Posted 24 January , 2009 1920s view towards Ancre Valley from around area Ulster Tower/Scwaben redoubt. You can se the regular gravestones in Ancre River Cemetery in the old pic. In my pic the cemetery is hidden by the green trees. This was taken from a point behind the Ulster Tower, pretty much on the curvature of the ridge before it falls in direction Grandcourt.
