Havrincourt Posted 17 December , 2008 Author Share Posted 17 December , 2008 Here is a comparison for Tafski, the trees on the modern photo mean a better angle is needed Andy
gracksnip Posted 18 December , 2008 Share Posted 18 December , 2008 That's fantastic! These "morphed" photos have a unique quality that is difficult to describe -- it was in many respects a different world, but when the photos are overlaid it is as if no time has passed. Thanks very much! John
Havrincourt Posted 19 December , 2008 Author Share Posted 19 December , 2008 Hello John It's a pleasure, here we have the others, not best quality - but not too bad as there is alot going on in the picture Andy
stripeyman Posted 19 December , 2008 Share Posted 19 December , 2008 This is No1 Convalescent Depot at Bouogne in 1915. I tought the GWF would like to see one of 'The Camera Returns' team efforts. We try to do wartime photos that have not been subject to a comparison before. Let this sink in, and I will post the 'now' one on Saturday. wheelsjbl Posted 20 December , 2008 Share Posted 20 December , 2008 VERY quick colourisation of the Convalescent Depot for comparison with modern day when you post it Bob Brian
stripeyman Posted 20 December , 2008 Share Posted 20 December , 2008 This 'is' the same veiw taken in 1998. Under the X can be seen the spire of Notre Dame basilica in the mist. The veiw can be onfirmed by other photographs that show the road on front of the mound that has the RAMC badge. The position of the mound was paced out from a road junction to the right, luckily when this was completed the spire came into veiw confirming an accurate comparison. Havrincourt Posted 20 December , 2008 Author Share Posted 20 December , 2008 Bob and the "The Camera Returns Team", thank you for the comparison of the Convalescent Depot , as you say this part of the front not a common place to be visited or remembered I like the colourised version Brian, brings these places back to life John , here we see some of the others from your trip Beney village

Fraser Thomson Posted 25 December , 2008 Share Posted 25 December , 2008 i mucked around with the 'transform' tool in photoshop, to better align the perspectives. [some people have too much time on their hands] i chose this one...i even managed to get the downpipe aligned in the centre.

VideoHistoryToday Posted 25 December , 2008 Share Posted 25 December , 2008 Slight variation on the photo comparison theme I recently made a video trying to match up Malins Hawthorn Ridge mine explosion video with a modern comparison and find the location he set his camera up in. I admit I am no expert so any comments on the video or accuracy of the location appreciated. Video History Today: Hawthorn Ridge Maurice

joroti Posted 28 December , 2008 Share Posted 28 December , 2008 A fantatsic thread and the morphed pictures bring the past years to life. Wish I had as much time to play around with the images; as a new GWF member, I am absolutely hooked on the content. Keep up the work it is helpful and inspiring. I have visited a number of the more popular battlefields and cemeteries in the past whilst ignorant of the fact that I had a relative who fought and died in that dreadful conflict. Having discovered some of his past, I intend to visit Monchy-le-Preux where he was killed and Cabaret Rouge where he is at rest for the first time around easter 2009.
