HMT SWEEPER

I am interested in the Grimsby trawler SWEEPER GY 853. She was launched 24 February 1914 and requisitioned by the Navy in August 1914 as a bomb thrower / minesweeper FY 54. She was returned in 1919. I have the history of the ship including transfer to Norway and being torpedoed in 1945.

I do not have any information about members of the crew during or after WW1.

I shall be grateful to receive any relevant information.

Sok,

This site gives details of "Sweeper" including Official No. 134771:

http://www.miramarshipindex.org.nz/ship/show/162559

The Memorial University of Newfoundlad have a run of Crew Lists, with some gaps, from 1914 to 1936:

http://www.mun.ca/mha/holdings/viewcrews.p...icial_No=134771

The NMM may have the 1915 Crew Lists.

Thank you Sadsac and Kath for the information. I am interested in the ship because I have the shipbuilder's cased half-hull model. It was given to me by the son of the 1915-1936 owner.

She was torpedoed by U714 which was also sunk a few days later. U714 wreck has been dived and a video can be seen on YouTube at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iJArG1xuAJw

I am new to the this site and so unfamiliar with many acronyms. What is Sok?

Again many thanks.
