There were a number of 1/4th Dorset officers serving there at the end of the war. I dont have the CBI numbers to hand. Would appreciate a copy of his leave pass if you dont mind. The embroidery commemorates Pte T.Howells 52945, 8th Welsh Pioneers, No5 Reserve Battallion, Kirkee Camp, India 1917 18 1919. GenetB Posted 26 August , 2014 Share Posted 26 August , 2014 Interested in the comment about the 5th Reserve Battalion as my great uncle, private Thomas William Lowe, joined this battalion in 1918, January, having landed in Bombay December 1917. He originally enlisted with the South Wales Borderers 4th Battalion in December 1915 and I am really struggling to make the connection. He spent a lot of time in numerous hospitals such as Calaba, Kirkee and Deccan Bridge, but his medical records are too unclear to establish with what, although he seems to have been diagnosed with malaria in Salonika late 1917. Guest PJI777 Posted 4 January , 2015 Share Posted 4 January , 2015 Hi, My Grandfather Owen Roberts Pte 31515 4th Battalion SWB served in Kirkee Prisoner of War Camp Kirkee guarding Turkish Prisoners of War. L/Cpl Thomas William Lowe your Grandfather's Army Number is 31715, it appears that he was there at Xmas 1918, I know this because I have a copy of a Xmas Card from my Grandfather, other Regiments listed on the Xmas Card were - Royal Warwickshire Regiment, The Cheshire's, Royal Welch Fusiliers, South Wales Borderers, The Worcester's and The North Staffordshire Regiments. Ancestry records show they were issued the British War & Victory Medal whilst in the Reserve Infantry Battalion. Thomas Howells only appears to have earned the British War Medal as it is the only one listed on his MIC which suggests he only served in India and not in Mesopotamia with the 8th Welsh? And his MIC.
