Am looking for:

Medals (15 Star, BVM, WM) and Death plaque for my grandmother's cousin:

70760 Cpl Rowland George SHEPHARD MGC

Medals (Mons Star, BVM, WM, Second War Medal and Defence Medal) for my wife's grandfather

L/14233 Pte Frederick Walter William WHITINGTON Middlesex Regt

or

6188895 Gnr Frederick Walter William WHITINGTON RA

Whittington is an even longer shot than the rest as the family story is that after his death in 1956, everything of his was thrown out by his widow. But here's hoping...

Added - have just found out that Whittington also recieved the Second War Medal and Defence Medals. (apparently he joined the Home Guard and served until they found out his age.....! A case of lieing about his age in reverse to the more common stories or so family legend goes.)

I am searching for Private G/438 William George PEAT's Memorial Plaque (6th Battalion 'The Queen's Own' Royal West Kent Regiment - Killed in Action 7 October 1915 at Loos) and spoke to a dealer today to say that they were only issued to relatives who specifically wrote in to request them and so unless PEAT's widow asked for it it may not have been issued - Can anyone verify whether this is true or not? PEAT's records are amongst those that were burnt and are incomplete

Hi All,

I`m now wondering how many people look at this topic with a view to profiting from it. I have listed a plaque want, amongst others, and scouring the web i found one at the other side of the world for the unrealistic price of £115 !! Even the dealer selling it says there are well over 300 plaques to that name, i am looking for a local man, a private, so its unlikely to be the correct plaque anyway. Will i be buying it? I think i will wait for one of the other 300+. Any thoughts?

Regards,

Bill.

Most very common name plaques go for a fair bit over the "normal" price,£50.00/£60.00, you would pay.

I have paid in excess of £100.00 on two occasions "Joseph Smith and Joseph Cross".

Depending on how much you want the plaque, thats how much it is worth.

Bill, I can understand your reluctance to pay over the odds for it but the chances of you finding another of the 300+ in your lifetime is quite remote. You are an optimist if you think that another will turn up. So if you want one - go for this one. Jim
