Help - Sgt WJ Ward Bedford and Essex Regiments

Hi,

I would be grateful if anyone could provide me with information regarding my Grandfather who served with both the Bedford and Essex Regiments during the Great War. I am in possesion of his medals and the details on his medal card show he served with both the Bedford and Essex Rgts. The medals are engraved with the Bedford Rgt - Sgt WJ Ward 3/7772. I am aware that he went to the Western Front with a draft landing in France on 27/10/1915 heading for the 8th Bn of the Bedford Regiment. Although the medals are issued for his service with the Bedford Regiment they are not on the Bedford Rgt medal roll as I understand they were issued when he was in the Essex Rgt. His number in the Essex Regiment was 56046.

Any help with this or him (particularly on the Essex Rgt side, which could lead me to know what happened) would be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance

James Ward
