bmac Posted 16 November , 2008 Share Posted 16 November , 2008 I am trying to put together obits, biogs, personal details for all of the Brigade GOCs for 1st July. I have sourced quite a few from The Times on-line obit pages, etc., and several more from various web sites. There are others, however, that to date I can find no details for. If anyone can provide any information, even if just forenames, I'd be grateful. They are: 70th Brigade: Br Gen H Gordon 101st Brigade: Br Gen R C Gore 103rd (Tyneside Irish) Brigade: Br Gen N J G Cameron 86th Brigade: Br Gen W de L Williams 92nd Brigade: Br Gen O de L Williams 14th Brigade: Br Gen C W Compton 96th Brigade: Br Gen C Yatman 107th Brigade: Br Gen W M Withycombe 55th Brigade: Br Gen Sir T D Jackson 89th Brigade: Br Gen Hon F C Stanley 90th Brigade: Br Gen C J Steavenson 50th Brigade: Br Gen W J T Glasgow If anyone wants any of the obits, biogs, etc., of Brigade and Divisional GOCs NOT listed (and which, therefore, I have) please feel free to ask. armourersergeant Posted 16 November , 2008 Share Posted 16 November , 2008 Bill, Will look in my files and see what I have, but may I ask why? Doing some sort of analysis? Regards Arm
bmac Posted 16 November , 2008 Author Share Posted 16 November , 2008 A bit of preliminary work for a possible book idea. I've already ransacked your 21st Division site - which is very good too!
Chris_Baker Posted 16 November , 2008 Share Posted 16 November , 2008 Tried John Bourne's listing of Generals at the University of Birmingham Centre for First World War Studies site?
bmac Posted 16 November , 2008 Author Share Posted 16 November , 2008 Tried John Bourne's listing of Generals at the University of Birmingham Centre for First World War Studies site? Excellent suggestion. Prowse and Crosbie off the list.
armourersergeant Posted 16 November , 2008 Share Posted 16 November , 2008 I have a Glasgow but he was 13th brigade according to my notes?! Also not same initials. Prowse and Crosbie are on Centre for First World War studies 'donkeys' page. I have not checked the nicknames page also on that site. bmac Posted 16 November , 2008 Author Share Posted 16 November , 2008 Arm, Actually, thanks a lot for the kick to try the ODNB as I've now realised I can also use my library card to get access to this and to Who was Who, etc. Good material coming out of my ears now.
