keggy65 Posted 14 November , 2008 Share Posted 14 November , 2008 Just for your information: I emailed Ancestry with a query regarding WW1 Service Records and, as an afterthought, thanked them for making their records available free of charge in this anniversary month. This is their reply: "You are the first person I know of that who has offered a thank you for this service. We hoped it would be something many people would find rewarding. We are more than happy to do this. Also, we appreciate all of you as well!" Surely I can't be the only one! Mabel
Kath Posted 14 November , 2008 Share Posted 14 November , 2008 Probably, Mabel, but we have been too busy looking up records while the offer is on! Thanks for the timely reminder. Kath.
nhclark Posted 14 November , 2008 Share Posted 14 November , 2008 Mabel, my thanks to you as well. I've had a "British records" subscription to www.ancestry.co.uk for a number of years, and they do a great job in making records available to people everywhere who otherwise could not possibly pursue their hobby with the success that they have, and it always bugs me to see the continual criticism that Ancestry receives. laughton Posted 15 November , 2008 Share Posted 15 November , 2008 Ancestry.ca is free in Canada this month as well ...... but it is free anyway through Library and Archives Canada. I guess they forgot to mention that in the newspaper advertisements. But for us die-hards, it was great as we quickly saw the link to the free service in the UK as well and that is NOT FREE here in Canada, so MIC research has a priority these next few weeks. I had a lot of B&W versions that I paid for at the UKNA so it is great to get the original coloured version for free. If you are in the UK and you need access to the LAC here in Canada, you do not need to subscribe to ANCESTRY. Just tell us what you need and we will direct you to the correct locations. The 1901, 1906 and 1911 census is likewise free. Cheers to all our Pals and Palettes, Richard
David B Posted 15 November , 2008 Share Posted 15 November , 2008 good on yer Noel I am in the same boat, Ancestry is the one link to a lot of records that otherwise we may not be able to access from Australia. I for one hope they keep up the good work David
