Cavair Posted 14 November , 2008 Share Posted 14 November , 2008 Anybody been to Transloy area? Im wanting to find out about and eventually visit present day Rainbow Trench and Gueuedecourt / Transloy area. I know there is a Canadian memorial on the site of part of Rainbow. whats the lie of the land - is it mostly farmland and inaccessible or are there pockets of things to see. What museums etc are nearby? which cemeteries are nearby? and any Rifle Brigade burials. Particularly interested in Rifle Brigade's part in the battle after receiving war diary extracts for October 1916 and casualty returns for 12 Battn, Most of the men are on Thiepval memorial of course. My stepmums dad was wounded during the October battles. thanks for any advice. any recommendations of accommodation?! 2-3 nights at a reasonable cost! many thanks Richard

egbert Posted 14 November , 2008 Share Posted 14 November , 2008 Rainbow is on top of the hill, right side of the road (looking from Gueudecourt towards Le Transloy [where it is marked "IR 72"])

Malcolm Posted 14 November , 2008 Share Posted 14 November , 2008 Egbert has used my photo but that's ok cos I've used his before . The Newfoundland Caribou is under the trees on the horizon in the picture. Behind the camera inside Guedecourt there is a nice village green where you can eat your packed lunch! Aye Malcolm ps. natives are very friendly
