W Hodgson West Riding Regiment

I have a 1914-15 Star named to:

3189.

L-Cpl W. Hodgson

W. Rid. R.

I've tried searching the medal rolls and the military records on ancestry.co.uk without success as yet, and have even tried the Commonwealth War Graves Commision. I'm aware that he may be listed under the new number he would have got when the Territorials re-numbered, which would make it even more difficult to find out more about him.

The medal ribbon has been mounted at some point, so I presume that he survived the War. Strangely the medal was mounted singly, rather than as part of a group though.

I'd be interested in finding out more about his service, if anyone has any pointers.

Cheers

Thomas Dismore Bailey is 1st 5th Battalion. Reported locally as being killed while attending wounded while acting as a stretcher bearer. Must be one of the other battalions.

I have a Pte W Hodgson listed on my 1914 nominal of Cleckheaton lads within the 1/4th West Riding Regiment Unfortunately it doesnt have Reg Numbers.

He is listed as living Victoria St Cleckheaton...Hmm i wonder if thats him??(My dad was born on that street!)

That's a possibility. According to this site: http://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/british_r...ng_regiment.htm it would have been possible for someone serving in this battalion to have earned the 1914-15 Star. Was it a Territorial Force Battalion?

Four territorial battalions arrived in France in April 1915.

1st 4th - 1st 5th - 1st 6th - 1st 7th Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment.

We know he isn’t 1st 5th because Thomas Bailey has that number in that battalion. So it must be one of the other three. The 2nd line battalions of this regiment did not arrive on the Western Front until January 1917, so they missed the 1914/15 star. Although some of them will have moved from 1st line to 2nd line battalions after being sent home wounded etc.
