How to determine which Company of Royal Engineers?

I am new to your forum and would like to ask a few questions about my great uncle who fought in WW1. He was Jack Benstead of the CORCC (Canadian Overseas Railway Construction Corps) - #1 Company -12th Regiment. He served with the Royal Engineers and was sent to France on August 31,1915. His regimental number was #566 and he was a sapper.

Am I able to find out which company of the Royal Engineers he served with? Would he have been attached to the fighting portion of the Division? Also what would his duties have been?

Thank you for your consideration.
