Grahamshak Posted 8 November , 2008 Share Posted 8 November , 2008 After looking closely at my grandfather's medals I came across a small well worn medal which I have so far been unable to identify. Some of the characters have been worn away which makes me think it was worn frequently by someone. Hopefully attached are scans I did of it. The only information I have about his military service is that he was Private Harold Shackleton 38076 in the York Regiment. He recieved the Victory and British medals which I posess. This ties in exactly with his military medal record but there is still a little bit of the script on the document I do not understand. Can anyone please help by filling in the blanks and supplying any other information about this little medal. Anything advice which might assist me with my research of my grandfathers military career would also be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation. Grahamshak Posted 8 November , 2008 Author Share Posted 8 November , 2008 here is his medal index card Thank for that tafski, can you enlighten me on the writing in the Remarks column? Can I research any further into the roll and page information shown? If so where and what might it tell me? It would be nice to have some idea of his movements, involvment during the great war. HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 8 November , 2008 Share Posted 8 November , 2008 In the Remarks Column is "ClZ" being Class "Z" Discharge to the Reserve prior to formal discharge @ the cessation of Hostilities The Brass medal is presumably a "Local" Commemerative medal given to returning soldiers or sold to raise funds for them @ the end of the War & would have no official standing,it was probably meant for wear on a Watch Fob or similar.
