MrG Posted 8 November , 2008 Share Posted 8 November , 2008 Hope someone can help - would a soldier of the great war who died and was buried in France have a GRO death certificate? Thanks Merve
kloughnane Posted 8 November , 2008 Share Posted 8 November , 2008 Merve, Give them a call and ask them. My great grandfather was posted missing in Mesopotamia in 1916, and the GRO were able to supply me with a death certificate. Cause of death was stated as "Presumed to have died". John_Hartley Posted 8 November , 2008 Share Posted 8 November , 2008 would a soldier of the great war who died and was buried in France have a GRO death certificate? Yes. They'll be in the GRO Overseas Deaths List. As Kev indicates cause of death is likely to be "presumed to have died" if the body was never found or "killed in action" if it was.
