ianohara Posted 6 November , 2008 Share Posted 6 November , 2008 I was lucky enough to visit the Tyne Cot memorial today on the 91st anniversary of Thomas Spink's death. As a 'new recruit' to this (I acquired his memorial plaque on something of a whim last year) it was a powerful experience. Thomas was born into an agricultural family at Clopton, Suffolk on the 24/09/1898. He enlisted with the East Surrey Regiment at Croydon. As best I can tell he was killed serving with the 1st East Surrey regiment in the Ghelvert/Polderhoek area at around 6am on the 6/11/1917 by a hostile barrage. The East Surrey's were supporting the Devonshire's assualt on the Chateau which failed later that day.
irishmen1916 Posted 7 November , 2008 Share Posted 7 November , 2008 Rest in Peace Lad. Some times we pick up things, that just will not let us go. Glad to see his Plaque is safe, and he is rememered. Peter
