Remembering Thomas Spink

I was lucky enough to visit the Tyne Cot memorial today on the 91st anniversary of Thomas Spink's death. As a 'new recruit' to this (I acquired his memorial plaque on something of a whim last year) it was a powerful experience.

Thomas was born into an agricultural family at Clopton, Suffolk on the 24/09/1898. He enlisted with the East Surrey Regiment at Croydon. As best I can tell he was killed serving with the 1st East Surrey regiment in the Ghelvert/Polderhoek area at around 6am on the 6/11/1917 by a hostile barrage. The East Surrey's were supporting the Devonshire's assualt on the Chateau which failed later that day.

Rest in Peace Lad.

Some times we pick up things, that just will not let us go. Glad to see his Plaque is safe, and he is rememered.

Rest in Peace Thomas Spink.

Looks like that whim has started something longer lasting. All the best.
