Remembered Today:

Wailly Sector Somme 1916

I am researching the death of my Great Great Uncle Horace Bugg from the 8th Btn Northumberland Fusiliers.

From an earlier post I have gleened some useful information. I have now downloaded some war diary extracts from the National Archive and it shows that Horace's Battalion entered took the line at the Wailly Sector on or around the 1st of August and were relieved on the 23rd of August.

Horace was killed in action on the 18th of August.

Has anyone any information on the Wailly Sector of the Somme which I understand was near Arras?

Many thanks

Phil

I have seen a little bit of info which you might find interesting as one of these men was also buried in Wailly Orchard. There is a small map which might help and a bit of a story. Thanks to our friend Google.

Edit: for some reason this link won't load. If you Google "Wailly in Battle of Somme 1916" you will get the page (among others).

Sotonmate,

Not quite sure why I didn't find that when I was Googling Wailly. Thanks very much.
