Well done, Chris

They will be sorted.

Terry,

Any news on the two known burials that I forwarded to you (1 x WW1 MN and 1 x WW2 RAF).

Cheers.

Andy.

No news yet.

They are in hand. The physical inspections have to be fitted in with other scheduled visits and then the legal stuff relating to permissions for headstone erection can take a loooong time.

I will email you when there is news.

Thank you!

A good friend and all-round super lady has a little site about the Maloja - here

www.ssmaloja.co.uk

I hope this helps. As well as the press reports, there are a few more Dover burials mentioned, and pictures of headstones.

A superb little website by Joyce Banks.

It will be interesting to see if either of these casualties has an actual headstone in Dover? If not, then I presume their names will eventually be taken off the Tower Memorial and new headstones erected? :D

Chris,

I'm sure between us all we should be able to confirm where exactly they are buried.

This is a super find, well done. ;)

Joyce K.A Banks has just very kindly sent me these photos which I'm sure you would like to see Chris. A Merchantile Marine casualty and a RAMC officer casualty both buried locally in Dover I think. Note the rank of the RAMC is a Surgeon (never seen that before). Email me if you want full size copies Chris. I wonder if your casualties are buried close by? -

Terry

there is some confusion here - both grave refs for Maine are the same - so is he Indian army or RAMC?

Nice one Terry

How did the previous entry show him as Indian Army

And I thought that we were not at home to Mr Cock Up

Or perhaps shall I lay another place

And that was as a consequence of posting a simple photograph...

Nice to see it's been corrected well done Terry. :D

With regard to the rank, surely a Surgeon is an appointment not a rank? I have heard of a naval Surgeon Lieutenant Commander etc as a rank, but never an Army officer.

I really do hate to throw this one in however the London Gazette has conclusive proof the he was an senior assistant surgeon in the Indian Army - Gazette page sent to Terry
