Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help. I am interested in Thomas George Oliver Humphrys. PTE 6 Ist Battalion Manchester Regiment. I have already researched Great Role, Medal Roles, CWWG and Battalion Diaries. He died battle of Neuve Chapelle March 1915. I have visted memorial he has no known grave. He served 11 years in army prior to death with 1st Manchesters, half of service being in India. I have his medals.

His brother Robert Samuel Louis Humphrys PTE 9909 served with 2nd Battalion Manchester reg. and I have downloaded his record of service and pension records from Ancestry, they make brilliant reading he joined the army age 14 Dec 1895,with IV Q6 Hussars RA 7998,, he took part in Ladysmith and Talana South Africa. He was discharged from Manchesters after the battles WW1, Nov 1914 due to deafness. I also have his medals.

I cannot find TGO Humphrys service records on Ancestry, will this mean that they have not survived?

It's a real let down I was in 7th heaven finding Roberts.

If they have not survived will this mean that his pre ww1 service records have also been destroyed?

One last question ( for the time being Ha!) Robert attended the Royal Hibernian Military School anybody any info on this please.

Thanks Karen (Karlowe1959)

Whilst the uploads are incomplete, it appears that the vast majority of surviving records from A-H are there. Personally, I'm assuming that my own "required" ones are gone, and that if the do appear it will be a massive bonus, but I am not holding my breath.

As far as pre-war records go, if it was me I would be checking in the WO97 series, anyway! These are physical files in boxes at the National Archives, filed alphabetically with only the theoretical first and last names in the box being shown on the online index.

Steve.

P.S. Always try alternative spellings!
