Remembered Today:

"Another Native Beauty"

I have just obtained a group of very faded photographs. This is one of them; the photographer (whose shadow can be seen in the right foreground) has helpfully added the caption on the rear "Another native beauty". However, he neglected to say where she lived. Can anybody recognise the location by her clothing please?

John.

It looks like the Balkans to me. I'd go for Salonika.

I'm 99% sure she's from Macedonia. The dark colour of her costume hints that she might be Sarakatsani - the Sarakatsani are a nomadic sheepherding people who used to roam through that whole area (northern Greece, southern Serbia, modern Macedonia, Bulgaria). There are also dark folk costumes from around Serres in Greece. So west/north-west of Salonika.
