paulfeeney Posted 22 October , 2008 Share Posted 22 October , 2008 Hi all I am researching my grandfather William James Mogg. He was a Private in the KRRC No. A/3446. Can somebody please do a look-up in the KRRC Medal Rolls Index to help me ascertain what battalion he was with? Many thanks Paul

MBrockway Posted 22 October , 2008 Share Posted 22 October , 2008 Pals, What Paul is after is a look-up in the Medal Rolls not the Medal Index Cards. Here's the entry for my own grandfather on the KRRC British War & Victory Medals Roll as an example: You'll see it shows the battalions my GF served in, which is what Paul is after for his grandfather. He already has the Medal Index Card, see: WJ Mogg Medal Index Card Sadly I don't yet have my own copy - I got the image above courtesy of one of the other Pals For Paul's GF, a look up in the Ox & Bucks LI Medal Roll will also be needed. Cheers, Mark
MBrockway Posted 22 October , 2008 Share Posted 22 October , 2008 Paul There is a remark in remarks column ie. clan z, 22,5,19. Brian Brian, This is "Class Z, 22,5,19". It signifies that William was discharged into the Army Class Z Reserve on 22nd May 1919, and here FYI is the blurb on Class Z Reserve from the mother site: Class Z Reserve was authorised by an Army Order of 3 December 1918. There were fears that Germany would not accept the terms of any peace treaty and therefore the British Government decided it would be wise to be able to quickly recall trained men in the eventuality of the resumption of hostilities. Soldiers who were being demobilised, particularly those who had agreed to serve "for the duration", were at first posted to Class Z. They returned to civilian life but with an obligation to return if called upon. The Z Reserve was abolished on 31 March 1920. Cheers, Mark
