Neil Clark Posted 21 October , 2008 Share Posted 21 October , 2008 I'm working on this man - Gunner 111956 Reginald EARL. “VX” Heavy Trench Mortar Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA). Died 2nd May 1918 aged 27 years. Son of John and Jane Earl (nee Wells) of 2 Romney Road, Ashford, Kent. Born Hythe. Resided Willesborough. Buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Grave reference XXVIII.B.9A. Can someone please tell me a bit more about this Royal Garrison Artillery unit? What exactly was this battery and where did it serve? Any help and advice gratefully received.... Thanks Neil
ororkep Posted 21 October , 2008 Share Posted 21 October , 2008 As its half time…. Neil, in case you did not know, as you have used the CWGC details, his records have survived in the ancestry burnt series. Went out in June 1916, posted to 1 Sge Bty, hard to read but then appears to have been wounded, went to No 2 Reinforcing Depot Oct 1917; and eventually served with 359 Sge Bty from 9-1-18, before joining TM Bty 7-2-18 Rgds Paul
