Had a quick visit to PRONI this morning and this is what I found out from the 1901 census for Moy.

James Whitley resided at Charlemont Street in 1901 and confirms the 1910 entry. His occupation is listed as 'Board Housekeeper', aged 40 and C.O.I. Also there are Alice (Wife) aged 38, William J aged 11, Elizabeth aged 9, James aged 7 and Robert 5.

Interestingly William is listed as being born in what looks like 'Northumberland'.

2 Chapel (?) Street, Moy has Thomas and Simon Menagh recorded. Thomas' daughter is recorded as Lizzie Whitley, aged 26, married and a seamstress. Her children are also recorded, Marjorie aged 4, John aged 3 and Thomas Steven aged 1.

Eugene is absent and I couldn't see him anywhere else in the Moy returns - where was he? - no trace on the GB 1901 census. Somewhere else in Ireland most likely.

So, whilst there exists a very strong possibility they are related to what extent is still unclear - but certainly not brothers.

Another Whitley (68) lived nearby in the square and was a bricklayer - wife but no children.

Regards

David
