Some stunning pictures- well done all. These could grace the pages of a marvellous book.

Phil -yours definitely does compare, and I agree about the trees resembling shellbursts.

This is probably one of the favourite ones that I've taken.

At Beach Cemetery Anzac. The grave in the foreground is Cornelius Murphy of th 4th Field Ambulance. A Fremantle soldier that I'm researching.

This one really give me everytime the shivers!! Sometimes I think it has something unreal. Must confess that when the photo was developed (taken with normal camera) I was very impressed by the athmosphere is showed. Langemark German cemetery has always given me a kind of special impression even 40 to 45 years ago. This photo revealed me what it was: the statues. I have past there quit a lot in the 60ies when delevering telegrammes. I remember always cycling a little quicker to pass the Cem 'to avoid the look of those statues'. Very 'spooky' on stormy evenings.

bkristoph,

sorry for being not knowledgeable with Irish matters in the Great War: where is that tower and adjacent trench located?

the Irish tower is in Messines( Mesen) next to the road to Ploegsteerd.

The trench is completely collapsed now + the farmer filled the rest up.

But the bunker is still there.

It is a British bunker from 1917.

Wow some amazing photo’s. I wish I had vision to produce such atmospheric images.

Bkristof, out of interest the photo’s you posted are in sepia or some similar affect. I assume the originals are in colour. How do they compare side by side? What is the rational for change?

Regards

Dave

I took this photo of St Charles Potyze french cemetery (ypres) on my visit to the menin gate ceremony on the 11th nov 03. It’s wonderful how tidy and symmetrical the cemetery’s are.

I don't know about you, mate - but even the photo is giving me the shivers. Brilliant shot - one of your best that I've seen.

Some awesome photos. For what it may be worth, this is the picture of which I am most proud - full stop. Has lost a little 'in the translation' but needs no explanation and was taken just after the unveiling on 21 June 2001.

As somebody has commented elsewhere, this says it all...

Great pic AndrewP.... Personally I have seen very few pictures from Gallipoli, not 'cause they are not out there, though. I do think this is a very neat view.

Mandy - a lovely photo, a great day and the cem looks wonderful. I was wondering how long ago you took it, because I stopped outside the cem just over a week ago. Compared to your photo the grass looked rather shabby - brown and dry and dull. Nothing like the lush covering that we are used to.
