Could someone help with the whereabouts of the 8th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, on and around the 28th May 1917, the soldier i am researching was fatally injured on this day. many thanks Nick

New to this forum and found your old post. Know its five years old and you probably have found the information by now but thought I would post anyway in case it helps.

War Diary Entries:

23rd May 1917 - Battalion Footbal Final A3 D 1

24th May 1917 - Entrained from ABELEE to YPRES and took over HILL 60 Sub -Sector from 10th WESTRIDING REGT. Trenches from WINDY CORNER to RAILWAY CUTTING (ref ZILLEBEKE map) Good relief tho' rather late in completion (4.30am)

25th May 1917 - Nothing of importanceto report. From today up to the conclusion of our tour enemy shelling was very heavy chiefly in retaliation for our continued artillery activity,

26th -28th May 1917 - As above.

So looks like the soldier you are researching could have fell victim to this shelling.

I have trench maps if you need a copy.

Both my great Uncle and my Grandfather served with the 8th Y & L.
