CNOCK, find here the two awards to MELLINGS - presume this is your Capt ??? ;

MELLINGS Harold T N/E Flt.S/Lt. RNAS 85T060 N/E

Vice Admiral East Mediterranean 22.06.17 Gazetted

R.N.A.S. Officers - Eastern Mediterranean 1917 DSC

On the 19th March a hostile aeroplane approached Thermi and was engaged by a Bristol Scout - Pilot Flt.S/Lt. Harold T. Mellings, and pursued as far as Smyrna, with great gallantry, S/Lt. Mellings attacked at heights ranging from 12 to 2,000 feet, approaching as near as 20 feet from the enemy. It appears probable that the observer in the enemy aeroplane was shot, as after the second attack, he was seen to be lying forward on his gun and never fired again. This is the second mission on which S/Lt. Mellings has successfully engaged an enemy machine single handed. He has also carried out much valuable service flying.

MELLINGS Harold T DSC Flt.Lt. RNAS 85T222 British Aegean Squadron Rear Admiral Commanding British Aegean Sqdn. 19.12.17 G R.N.A.S. Officers - Engagement Enemy Seaplanes 30.09.17 DSC - bar to For services in an engagement with enemy seaplanes off Mudros on the 30th September, 1917.

For great skill, judgment, and dash displayed in the successful attack on three German Seaplanes, of which two were brought down in the sea.

Hi Ian,

No doubt I have missed a golden opportunity to find a photo of the following airman.

Lieutenant Eric Hinckes BIRD,25th Squadron, Royal Flying Corps and 1st Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers died age 22 on 27 June 1916. He was the son of the late Dr. Arthur Hinckes Bird and Kate Bird, of Chelsea, London

Fingers crossed you get this in time.

Thanks in anticipation.

Kind Regards,

Mark.
