simonrguy Posted 3 September , 2008 Share Posted 3 September , 2008 One of the soldiers on the War Memorial I'm researching - Capt. E H Harrision (8th East Surrey Regt) is listed in the London Gazette as being a temp Captain "whilst empld as a Brig. Bombing Officer." Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Brig. Bombing Officer" do and why would Capt Harrsion have been made a "temp Capt." Thanks for your help Simon
squirrel Posted 3 September , 2008 Share Posted 3 September , 2008 Brigade Bombing Officer was responsible for the selection and training of Bombers within the Brigade. Bombers being those specialists using hand grenades.
centurion Posted 3 September , 2008 Share Posted 3 September , 2008 And also for ensuring that adequate stocks of grenades were maintained in the front line trenches, and making sure that these were in good order. I don't think that he would carry out training - more ensuring that those selected attended bombing schools run by specialist instructors
