Waffenlandser Posted 29 August , 2008 Share Posted 29 August , 2008 I am a medical doctor. I was reading the book "Before Endeavors Fade" There was brief mention of Captain Chavasse who was awarded the VC and bar for valour. The circumstances of his death was rather vague. Captain Chavasse was RAMC and he apparently died while doing his job. Is there anybody here who has more information on the precise circumstances of his sacrifice? Thanks. Mark Hone Posted 29 August , 2008 Share Posted 29 August , 2008 'Chavasse: Double VC' by Ann Clayton (recently republished) is the definitive book. I was surprised to see that the recent TV series 'Victoria Cross Heroes', which includes Ann Clayton in the credits, gets some details wrong. They also managed to hire an actor who looked nothing like Chavasse for the dramatized reconstructions. It does give you some idea though.
