Remembered Today:

With regard to the living quaters of the Royal Engineers

I understand that behind the frontline trench is a trench that runs pretty much parrallel to the frontline trench. theres about a 30 yeard gap between the 2 trenches. Along this trench the soldiers lived in shallow bunkers.

But my question is, would Royal Engineers have ever stayed in these bunkers, and if so, under what conditions, and work would they have been doing?

And who would a CSM have lived with?

Where were RE companies usually stationed, on the frontline or further back? Im not talking about tunnellers, I just mean the ordinary RE units.
